Well, I "popped my cherry" last week and finally ventured outside Poole Harbour with a trip to Yarmouth. Had a fantastic day and a real sense of achievement even though, to be fair, it was easy as pie.

So I'm heading off on June 13th with a colleague (who is also a boaty type) to Bucklers Hard for lunch, then over to Cowes for the evening.

I've not been to either places by boat (well, Cowes last year on his yacht before I bought my boat, but I was so busy being amazed by actually being on a boat, I missed much of the approach!) so any suggestions on good places to eat/drink/be merry would be appreciated.

If anyone is in Cowes in the evening of the 13th and sees us on "Mischievous" come and say Hi. I'll make sure the fridge is stocked up!

Bucklers Hard has only the Master Builder unless you fancy a longish but very pleasant 2.5 mile walk to Beaulieu village.

Cowes you will be spoilt for choice. If you want to keep it simple with Fish & Chips then Corries Cabin should be on every boaters list of things to do / places to try before they die !

Food at Bucklers Hard is dire. Take a tender or make the 40 minute walk up to Beaulieu and go to the montague arms. The hotel now lets you eat posh outside, or go for the pub for value.

Cowes has a lot of choice, I'd say Mowchacks for posh or Bahar indian for value(take your own drink).

Do you mean Mojac's ?

As has been said already loads of choice in Cowes.

Mojac's is superb, Murrays is an institution which every boater has visited at least once in their lives, the Red Duster provided an excellent meal when we last visited. The Anchor has fed me on more occasions than my Mum, Number 3 is excellent if you can get a table, Tonios Italian has been there since the dawn of time and so the list goes on. You'll not go hungry!

Ah yes, Mowchacks is an Indian in Portsmouth I had in my mobile! I might be dislexwick.

You could also try Coast, just doubled in size and now cooks pizzas in front of you. Not gone down well with Tonios opposite! Coast has been full all winter while Tonios has been empty.

If you want a pub for food try the Pier View or the Union (just taken over last month by a keen local girl) I would not eat in the Anchor out of choice. Its a great pub just not for food.

We've eaten in Coast. A good looking place as well. Tonios is a bit more dated in comparison hence the number of bums on seats. Kerb appeal !

I shall try the Union. Haven't been in for a while.

We had a cheap & cheerful dinner in the Fountain recently and have to say the refurbishment has made a big improvement. Ok, food wise you have to stick to stuff that microwaves well like sausage & mash but it wasn't expensive & they can usually fit you in. They also serve food all day.
