Excellent! Thought I.... A solid state wind instrument that has no moving parts and can't be wrecked by obese seagulls perching on it... Whats more, two seperate dials... One for wind speed and one for direction. What could be better? So I broke open my piggy bank and bought one. At first, all was well... Now and again when first switched on the wind direction gauge would rotate at a steady 15 RPM.... But as soon as a breeze came up it would settle down. First season therefore OK...
Second season, noticed rather erratic wind speed readings... Then direction errors. But after a while things settled down. This year, wind direction back to rotation at 15 RPM and in a gentle breeze wind speed registers 35 knots...some of the time....
other times in about 15 knots it registers diddly squat.
Now apart from a gentle rant my question is.... was I the only poor fool to buy one of these things? Has anybody else got one that works? Or has anybody else got one that doesn't? I can't of course tell if its the gauge heads or transducer that is up the swanee. I suspect the former as the build quality is crap. I understand that the transducer itself can be fitted to other gauges and is re-badged by others. Probably means it talks reasonable nmea... If I could buy a new gauge head that would work with the thing it would be a good solution. Anyone know anything???
