When using a chamois on the white gelcoat after the boat’s been washed, recently I’ve noticed that the chamois ends up being chalky white (so much so that you can only see white on the chamois where it was in contact with the boat). Also, it turns the water white when rinsed in the bucket…..so - it must be either salt, or gelcoat(!) I suppose, but which one?

Perhaps I should do some trials by washing really thoroughly first (to remove all salt) and then try the chamois - but just wanted opinions from the forum beforehand....

It's an AZ50, 2006

It’s happening on more than one of the mouldings, so hopefully(!) not a production issue.

Ummmm – that could be interesting and makes me think…….

The boat is berthed 50 ft away from the lifting crane (that always seems to have a boat in slings in it being power-washed). Also, with typical S/W winds blowing, we’re in direct firing line of the mist and spray created by this power-washing……I assume the stuff I was scraping of the props a couple of weeks ago was calcium, so perhaps this might be the answer?? If so, do you think there might be long term detrimental effects from this??

Thanks.
