About 3 weeks ago I managed to fill my Diesel Range Rover with 95 litres of BP ultimate unleaded petrol. At the time I just thought it was my stupid error, got the car recovered to the garage and pumped out of the fuel, which I put in my Speed boat as it was 95% petrol.

A friend at the marina said he heard on the radio that BP had accepted the colour coding was wrong and were paying for the repairs.

Eventually today I got round to emailing BP about my problem and to my suprise got this reply

"As a goodwill gesture,Bp have offered to pay for the repairs costs of
customers who have misfuelled with either ultimate unleaded or ultimate
diesel." we appreciate that some customers are confused between the ultimate colours."

I call this a good result, anybody else been as stupid as me??

From the response you have had from BP, My guess is thousands have made the same mistake!! If it had been one silly mistake just by yourself you wouldn't have got a reply, let alone an offer of recompense!!!

Good service though especially from a big player like BP.

I fuelled up at BP last week and did a double take on the nozzle..... I replaced it four times and eventually got it right by looking at the pump price vs the forecourt banner price.

They all looked the same.

I thought I was dumb........pleased to see others are similarly puzzled.

I was far more stupid than you and actually ran out of petrol on the A34. The AA guy told me that they have had hundreds of call outs for people who have filled up at BP and put the wrong fuel in cos of the blue pumps.

Yes nearly put Ultimate diesel in mine instead of Super Unleaded, easy done.
Suppose some bright spark (not the best thing to have in a petrol station ! ha ha )thought the new colours would be nice to go with the new signs etc..

Yep - ultimate unleaded (dark blue pump) instead of diesel - did it beginning of this year when they first brought it out. Fortunately noticed when only 5 litres or so pumped in so topped off 60 litres of diesel and carried on. Most people seem to think a bit of petrol in diesel tank not harmful but a few said even 5% concentration could be a problem. Sold the car a couple of months later./forums/images/icons/blush.gif

Nah - one can use up to 30% kerosene to avoid waxing in the winter with no harm just sl loss in power.

5% petrol is not going to reduce the lubricity of the diesel for the fuel pump/distributor enough to make any difference

Thanks for all the replies.

Dont feel so stupid now, glad it was not only me. Boat did run very well on the Ultimate Petrol, pity none on the lake.

Range Rover running as well as every now its back on the Diesel.
