This weekend was the first in Chi Marina, so I was wanting to see how big a lock queue developed. Well it took 2.5 hours to get out and we had to queue half tide all the way up the entrance channel in a cross wind of 10-13 knots for 2 hours getting in.
Was not too bothered as just stuffed her on the windward mudbank (rising tide) in between moving towards the lock as the queue moved up. Another yacht behind me and scuba motorboat in front also doing the same. Question is why were others apart from a 44 fairlane not doing the same? are there isolated concrete clocks lying in wait for my lead keel adopting this approach tactic. Channel was so blocked by the others being blown around that departing boats were advised to stay put.
Also noted a distinct hump of mud directly in line with lock and channel opposite pontoon, depth in channel was 1.6m but we went ploughing for about 2 meters in only 1m indicated. Previous leaver went right over to the pontoon side here so guess he had previous local knowledge.
