You may remember I posted recently about being told that I was not allowed to beach a power driven boat on Studland. I emailed the National Trust asking for clarification, and received the following reply:

Thank you for your email which has been passed to me for reply.
I will try and clarify the situation for you regarding boats at Studland.
We operate the slipway and boat park at Knoll Beach. Boats over 20 hp are unable to launch unless they are members of the Studland Power boat club which has a limited membership and strict regulations. Boats under 20hp may launch from the slipway for a daily fee. No jet skis are allowed to launch. Therefore the National Trust controls launching on its land.
At Studland the NT has ownership to the Mean Low Water mark beyond this is Crown Estate or PHC at Shell Bay.
All sailors have a right of navigation if they have an emergency with their vessel. I think the main point here is that launching is only allowed from the controlled slipway and for visitor safety and enjoyment we wish to limit the number of boats parked on the sand.
I think you will appreciate that no boats are allowed to park up on any Poole or Bournemouth beaches for the same reason.
I hope the regulations are now clearer.
Regards

I'm not sure, but I think I'm now even more confused. I have asked for clarification.

Not entirely unreasonable, but I don't see how they can prevent you anchoring 1metre below thw high water mark at low water, which could have a similar result.

Do you really want to beach a large Flybridge cruiser ?

dv.

Oooerr.

Would deflating (then reinflating) a deflatable cause less aggro, as main issue seems to be beach occupied by parked tender. You'd develop one leg slightly more muscley than other after a while...

Or the oars? At least that way, limbs on both sides develop together.

I am a member of the NT and nowhere does it state that I cannot use my tender on a beach that I am a memeber to use... my Jet Rib has no markings on it to state HP, so I would be very interested to see if they produced a mobile rolling road (sea eqvilant) to test the HP.

I think you are missing the point. Ignore HP, it says: "for visitor safety and enjoyment we wish to limit the number of boats parked on the sand".

They don't want boats on the beach.

Is this the sand that is there for the pleasure of us all? why does 20hp make a difference? if you are responsible you will not be going flat out, so HP makes no difference what so ever.

If you are a PWC twat and enjoying everyone and being dangerous then I agree, however using one's tender to take the wife and kids to the beach does not warrant this over handed crap.

As a respect for beach users and for my own conveniece. As I have said before, I beach then send dinghy out on anchor with long string up beach. It saves me dragging dinghy up beach, but also saves space on beach. New ploy maybe to beach. Unload passengers and goods, row out to about one metre. and jusd deploy anchor and jump overboard.!!

So I suppose the council could have made the rule. Responcible folks only and able to follow resonable speed limits

Doubt if they'd get that passed the PC brigade.

After all, unreasonable folks are equel as well!!

It doesn't. You are still missing the point - they don't want boats on the beach!

Just imagine getting back to the marina - you don't want people swimming in your berth or deckchairs and windbreaks on the pontoons.

There are places for everyone to do their own thing, but they can't all do them in the same places.

If they do not want boats, why have a 20hp limit, if I did not want swimmers and deckchairs in the marina I would ban "swimmers and deckchairs" not those swimmers that cannot do front crawl and deckchairs only with checks?

If thats is missing the point then yes I am..

If you re read it you will see all boats are banned from the beach - the 20HP limit only applies to the slipway. The original post was to do with landing by tender, I don't think there are that many people with 20HP+ outboards on their tender. The majority with sub 20HP tenders can still land on the slipway, which presumably will be kept clear of deckchairs and swimmers. Where's the problem?

I'd certainly want to park for free - as a National Trust member, that is part of the privileges granted.

Dont forget, it members subs that pay for the rest to use the open spaces, for which there is no entry charge!

"I bet if you went by car you'd want to park on the sand as well" Based on your comment, I would park in the car park, where the cars are meant to be, and I would expect my tender to park in the sea, on the beach where it is meant to be...

As a fully paid up memeber of the NT I would also expect if they change the rules they let the memebers know they have changed these rules, so that I get an option to renew my annual subscription or not....
