Hi Everyone,
Just thought you'd be interested in this blog http://studlandbpa.blogspot.com
Which belongs to the newly formed STUDLAND BAY PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION .. a group of locals that want to keep Studland Bay free from any anchoring and mooring restrictions and keep the bay as it has been for over a hundred years ...for both Humans and Marine life to share and enjoy in harmony.
There is also an interesting underwater video on YOUTUBE of a fixed Studland Bay mooring that has been in situ for many years ..and it clearly shows there is NO damage to the Seagrass as alleged by the Seahorse people.
The conservationists won't like it ..but there will always be a different view on situation .

I sure hope these doo gooders dont get there way as i really enjoyed my anchor there last season and will be having the season there again this year i hope.
I struggle to see how any 1 group to claim rights to open water to prevent us from anchoring there. If they're so hell bend on preventing people, why not drop anchor bouys down for us to attach to. Who cares about some bloody sea grass or the odd sea horse which i've never seen snorkeling.
Where else does one go to anchor thats calm and sheltered. There's a large number of boats that use studland,so where are they all going to go?

Studland Bay

The law at the moment states we have a right to navigation there which includes the use of an anchor so I would just keep on using this safe haven and make sure you register your interest and use of the Bay with Finding Sanctuary and also leave positive comments on the Studland Bay Preservation Association blog as they are working hard to keep the bay free for all .

Si whether you care or not about 'bloody seagrass or the odd seahorse', just because you have never seen it doesnt mean it is not important, I have never seen you but I still care about your opinion because all trains of thought count. I 100% agree with you about the mooring bouys this is exactly what The Seahorse trust has argued for from day one but the authoriites i.e. Natural England and Crown Estates are refusing to act on this. Perhaps instead of all you antis having a go at The Seahorse trust and our friend Steve Trewhella perhaps you should target the authorities to put in mooring bouys !!!

Mooring buoys?

Err, like how many will be needed to cope with peak demand? Who will pay for laying them & maintaining them? What boat sizes (weight, length & draft) will they be suitable for?

Moorings are not so much an answer to the problem as a whole series of new questions & problems!

Neil, the problem is that Steve Trewhella is a loose cannon and he has done everything in his power to alienate just about every boater with his posts on Scuttlebutt.

Anything that Steve says is just white noise to me and will be ignored.

Send him on a PR course before letting him loose here again.
