I am aware of much discussion of this point in the past and have searched for a clear answer on the subject. I am a little scared to ask, but is it allowed ........ ?

Yes. The proposals are still grinding their way through government, with the authorities seeming less and less impressed with the seahorse-huggers' baseless assertions. Still don't know how it will end up, but for the moment nothing has changed.

According The Daily Mail, it's the Rich,Posh Yachties anchors' which cause the problem to the grasses. If you, like most of us are neither rich nor posh then no damage is being done, so Anchor away!

Someone told me at the boat show that there are free National Trust buoys there now. I think I anchored beside one a couple of weeks back! ...if the story is true that is, about which I have no idea.

The Bankes arms had a few moorings last time I was there. A bit shallow but I have used them overnight on neaps with a 6' draft. They expect you to use the pub though - what a hardship!

When was that?

We were there in August and dinghied ashore. Didn't notice any but to be fair we knew we were going to anchor anyway so weren't really looking for them until we went ashore and didn't notice any.

There were certainly at least 9 Bankes moorings there in July this year. (if memory is correct there used to be a few more?). A couple of years ago I even witnessed them being carefully serviced. I always use one if available ....AND use the pub!. Tidal range is very small (use Swanage). I have never seen any boat aground on the moorings.

When I anchored there a few weeks back there were a few yellow buoys about 200m off the north facing beach adjacent to Old Harry. I thought they were for marking out an exclusion zone, but perhaps they were the pub's buoys.

They are speed-limit buoys. The Bankes ones are tall, red, conical and very close inshore. ( also the only mooring buoys I have ever come across which you can easily pick up without a boat hook).
