DEFRA have announced that 37 new sites are to be considered as MCZs for decision in early 2015.
Studland, Needles, Yarmouth to Cowes, Norris to Ryde and Bembridge are all also on the list. This time the likely management options are to be included in the recommendations, so we shall know whether these popular S Coast anchorages are likely to have restrictions placed on them.
Needles MCZ covers Alum Bay, Yarmouth to Cowes will include the popular Newtown River, Norris to Ryde covers Osborne Bay and Bembridge includes the Priory Bay anchorage and the Bembridge approaches.
BORG has successfully challenged some of the key assumptions in the MAIA Eelgrass reports on Studland, and we wait to see how Natural England will respond, as the findings for Studland should apply to these other anchorages.
