Studgies dreaming of a new toy!! Any info on Rico Marlin 30\'s??

Well now we have got our boat all working as it should and almost as we want it........it is time to start thinking about the next boat!! We love our Sealine 285 but I yearn for somthing a little newer a tiny bit bigger and something with a protected helm position! (can go no bigger that about 33ft)

We have been having alook about this weekend and are still none the wiser but we did see some details for a couple of Rico Marlins which look quite nice but I know nothing about them and can see nothing from a quick google. They are both mid 90's boats, they seem to be an plaining hulls with an enclosed wheelhouse with twin 150 or 180HP diesels. We have looked at Nimbus' etc but the ones we like are always too expensive, out current pretend budget is 70K which the Rico's fall well under. Any info would be gratefuly recieved.

never heard of them but you won't regret the hard top.

have been out 3 of the last 4 weekends ........admittedly fishing but have remained comfortable on the run out / back despite wind and rain.

one question from the picture would be the width of the sidedecks - you need them to be 'safe and easy access to bow' as you lose a lot of options re clambering over/round the helm.

I know what you mean about the hard top, I am fed up fighting with canopies and poor vision. Also like the idea of having somewhere warm with big windows to sit and have a drink or eat while at anchor, we all like to be out side in the sun but when the rain comes in! I know I could buy a flybridge boat but my mooring is a little on the ickle side for that and I have not got the budget to but what I want!

Hmm, I think I need to go see one in the flesh as it were, as you say I have no idea about side decks etc. The broker assured me it was all very practicle but he would!!

Re: hardtop, practical

hum, but "practical" is boatsalesspeak for "a bit ugly" - a necessary by product of hardtop and walk around feature. Nonetheless, using much better than looking at it from the other side of the pontoon....

indeed but I quite like some of the 'ugly boats' maybe it is like people with ugly friends, they have em to make themselves look better, do you think it would work?

If ugly is ok - let's call it character shall we - then have you looked at the SB range from Wessex Marine ? Or even Botnia Targas from the same scource - more expensive, but quicker and with a great reputation as sea boats.

I'm sure there has been a short test of one or other of the two Ricos. I guess it would have been in MBM. Have you done a search ?

I love the Targa's but out of my price range for the one I would want, I have looked at the SB's but not convinced by them realy, the only ones I have spotted had relativley small engines.

You are right the Rico was in MBM in 1995 I think so will have to order a copy unless someone has one to hand.

Hi. If you are still looking for a Rico Marlin I have one for sale. Its a 1994 boat with twin 180hp diesels. The boat appears to be in very good condition and your right, they are good value for money in comparison to a lot of other sinilar crafts. If you would like me to send you the full details please email me at:

nickstratton@ancasta.com

I know ancasta currently have 2 of em, I have the spec sheets already I am just trying to get some background information on these boats to see if it is worth taking things further. I may have to pop over to lymington at the weekend for a look about one.

Have a look at RME boat mouldings Ltd of Plymouth. they have a website which shows a boat they produce called the Manta 30 which I believe is the same boat as the Rico Marlin. It is also available with a flybridge. Might be worth alook.

thanks stephenzoie I found it still not much info apart from the fact that they sell the moulds for self/yard fit out, maybe I will drop them a line, still have no details on what the hull/performance and handeling are like but hey, I'm getting there.

Re: Studgies dreaming of a new toy!! Any info on Rico Marlin 30\'s??

I got interested in these a couple of years ago. Ancasta had one for sale in Falmouth, then it moved over to Offshore Powerboats in Lymington. It was about 45k I think, was 1994, with blue/red hull & twin 180 mercruisers with about 450hrs. The brokers couldn't tell me much about it, but put me in touch with the owner. The boat was apparently made by Rico Marine in Plymouth, by some guys who used to work for Marine Projects. The hull is a Marine Projects (Princess) 30 ft planing hull. Fit out on factory boats was good, but some of the self fit outs obviously variable.
I got cold feet because I thought I'd have trouble shifting it when the time came. Be interested to see if one of the two around now is the boat I saw, and if it still has about 450hrs on it!
