I would hope you have supported the rear of engine as you pull the engine forward... and that you have put supports in to hold the forward end of the saildrive up for when the engine does move out of the way.
Note.. These fwd/rear directions are assuming the engine/saildrive combination is installed in the usual way with the engine forward of the leg.
For support of the leg, there are two holes in the side nearest the engine that will take a couple of rods, like the threaded bars in the photo below..
I'd suggest the engine is supported either under the sump, from the hanger above, or perhaps both.
I trust that you still have the leg supported at the aft end and haven't removed that and the diaphragm clamp ring already.
I seem to recall a hole in the saildrive where one can insert a bar to support it during the removal. you can put blocks of wood under each end of the bar for support. It may be worth looking at this to check that you are still maintaining alignment. Any burrs will make re assembly awkward. You seem to be removing the saildrive from the engine. I would recommend removing the engine from the saildrive
The support bar holes don't go all the way through.
The threaded bars in my photo go in about an inch or so.. You can just see the duck tape around the inserted part fattening them up from the M8 size that I think they are.
It's hard to believe the joint could separate in that manner... You'd not get the separation of the gearbox unless they were in line as you pulled them apart (or something has failed inside).
