Following my previous post re the new alternator, I have now re-installed the old one.

When the engine idles, all seems well. We are getting 10+ amps charge etc.

But when I increase revs the warning lamps flickers regularly.

Have no idea what this indicates, all wiring seems to be back as it was.

Any ideas??

Just a thought, but I have had similar problems caused by a slipping drive belt. However, if the rev counter is steady at high revs the belt will be OK - because the rev counter gets its info from the alternator.

Not sure at all about brushes.

What I did do was to connect the alternator up wrongly on the first try.

Instead of connecting the warning light lead to the field connector I connected it to the '61' connector. That was Advercs wiring diagram, but my fault for not checking it when I took it apart.

I started the engine with these connections, immediately the battery monitor showed a discharge or 12 amps, so I turned it off pretty quickly.

So I wonder whether I have damaged the alternator?

Since then I have take out all of the Adverc bits, but still get this flickering. Seems to charge OK.

Connections are tight. Suspect I have damaged it.

Real laugh was when I tried to stop the engine, nothing happened!! How do you stop a diesel engine!!!

I turned off the fuel at the primary filter, but it still kept running, I opended the bleed screw on the 2ndary filter, still kept running!!

Eventually I took off the control panel front, to see a loose wire, the one that goes to the stop solenoid! There are three empty pins, third time I got it right.

As they say if it ain't broke don't fix it!!

What a week-end, only positive is that I can hget that alternator on and off in seconds now!

Just fore the record, I have spoken to Adverc.

They are adamant that the warning light wire should be connected to the '61' terminal.

I have no doubt they are right, so apologise if I have indicated that their wiring diagram was incorrect.

They are very helpful.
