Just got MBM in the post - great - oooo and its very heavy.

Inside I find-
- a Force 4 catalougue - interesting seen that before but good to have a new one.
- a leaflet advertising Touchdown Charters - Introductory price must be booked before 30 Jan 2004 !! - So am I the new Dr Who ???
- a Cactus catalogue - great that looks interesting - "Strong on price" it says on the cover - BUT can I find a price anywhere inside the catalouge err NOPE not even one - zip, diddly sqat .... so there must be a separate sheet ......err no ....

then I found it - inside the front cover, it says and I quote "Cactus don't make a big deal about prices". Am I missing the point but why have a catalouge WITHOUT prices. Pointless. Or is it a secret marketing ploy ..........

Now to sit down and read MBM.

Well you should be so lucky, I only got the Cactus inside mine, no Force 4, I feel cheated, what have you done? whay did I not get mine?

I guess its dowm to price, regional basis, or just a fault with the machines at distribution. Or of course Force 4 juyst paying for an amount?

Nah. Force 4 know you never buy anything at the swindlers, Hagrid. You just blag stuff from Peters, don't you?

Well, mine didn't arrive today.
And knowing my luck, all i'll get is the Force 4 catalogue, with the rest left out, being its too heavy to send north of th border.

In that case they cannot be a professional company to spend a fortune on a very smart brochure with the result of annoying the very customers that they are appealing to.

I would be interested in their reply.

You lot haven't thought this through, have you?

Do you have any idea how much it costs to have a catalogue printed? We're talking HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF POUNDS.

Now, how often do street prices change? Every week, pretty much.

So, let's say they put their prices in the catalogue, like you ask. By next week, the prices have dropped. So that's half a million catalogues that are only good as firelighters.

Anyway, if you look it's actually described as a "Buyer's Guide", not a catalogue. The emphasis is more on product information. It also says "2004", not "February 2004" - in other words, it's an annual catalogue that has to be at least reasonably up to date come December.

It's a real buyer's market out there anyway, so if they did put their prices in, some other place would undercut them.

Oh yeah, and I went onto their website looking for prices and there's a pop-up on their new catalogue. Click it, and it takes you to a new page. First link - "Latest Price List".

They also make the point on that page that prices do change daily.

Ok smart r's , now try to go to the web page and find the TV module to plug into your laptop to receive TV pictures.

Can't remember the name as I am at work and catalogue is at home in the bin.

Its in the catalogue near the back, looks great.

Nowhere to be seen on the web page.

I did not say that there were NO prices on the web page, just that a lot were missing. Here I am an interested customer, likes the look of a product, but cannot find the price, result = lost interest.

Waste of their money printing it.

All of which would be fine if the 'Latest Price List' link didn't return a 'Page Not Found' error...

Mr C

Hello and welcome to the forum and your first post.

Quite a detailed post might I say - and a strange coincidence in that I e-mailed a link to this page to Cactus no more than a couple of hours before you logged in.

So are you Mr Cactus then ???

By the way - They got punished for a "Code Red"

*cackle* I always like to start as I mean to go on.

No, I don't work for Cactus and I don't have any particular axe to grind, its just I understand what it's like to have a brochure printed then watch it go out of date within a week because I was daft enough to put prices in it.

You're right about the website, though - I had a look at their product pages and they still have Raytheon's ST80 instruments in there...........

welcome - and your point is well made.
However I (and possibly others but they can speak for themselves) use a basket of items from the catelogue prices to give me ageneral indication of the competitiveness or otherwise of a company. I then include them or discard them from my 'active/prefered/recommended list when making a purchase.
I also use the observations of people of the forum.
In the context of Cactus I am led to conclude that they know what they are talking about and have a good installation/fitting team but are pricey and some people here have had some quote/final quote issues/frustrations.
