stripping paint from topsides

My boat has been painted with a single pack paint, I wondered if their was any type of chemical paint stripper (similar to Nitromors perhaps) that could remove the paint without damaging the gelcoat beneath? What would nitromors do?

Dont use Nitromors on GRP.

Nitromors will attack the gelcoat. If you have to use a paint stripper then use something like 'Dilunet' - It's horrible to use, but it works providing you follow the instructions. However, be warned and use full protective clothing including goggles, mask and polyethelene gloves - Dilunet is really nasty!

Depending on the adhesion of the paint to the gelcoat you might be able to use a high pressure washer on circular mode to lift it off - Much easier, but check the pressure and head distance to ensure that it doesn't lift off the gelcoat too ! All the leftover bits can be either 'Dilunet'ed or gently scraped off.

Have fun ! :)
