My decks are a MESS. The previous owner painted them with Awlgrip on top of another paint without proper preparation or undercoat. I feel the only way to deal with the problem is to strip the whole mess back to the gell coat and start again. Big messy job! Suggestions as to the best way to remove the old paint would be welcome.

Bad luck.. cover them in teak, real or imitation? I'd guess you'll have to machine them off. You might try a mechanical stripper. Depends a bit on the adhesion and hardness of the original paint, but I don't fancy any chemical action or heat process.

Use a steam wallpaper stripper. Its a bit laborious but it works.
use the small plate to thoroughy heat an area, then quickly removepaint with a square edged cabinet scraper (which you have to keep sharp)

we did a whole boat like this.

Anybody tried an electric plane? Gell coat strippers seem to be a modified version. They even use the same blades. Set very shallow it might work?
