Must have been the 74, although it's been out for a year or two now.

You must have been in the Nene valley site? Where the 74 is built in one shed at the back, and the Sq58 plus prototyes are built in another shed at the front?

Did you find out anything about the 66? Why it's delayed? What was the state of the 66's in build? Did they have a finished one, or what?

Re: fairline 66 developemnt info

Yep tell all Magnum. What I know is that hull #1 was being laminated in the mould dec 03, cos I saw it. Then nothing, no boat. Dealers say it will be at SIBS 2005 but not LIBs. So it's 12-18mths late

Re: fairline 66 developemnt info

Well I dunno. Lots of peeps have ordered the boat and paid deposit but it is now quite late so they must have hit some problem or summink? I dunno, would like to.

Erm, that cardboard furniture, it's not all mock up. The sofa cushions are stuffed with cardboard I think, just for starters

yes i was in Nene - went down the prodn line rather than the dev line. There was an empyy 66 hull mould in the workshop but I was too busy looking at the 58 etc......

Small world but the Site Production Manager did the same course as me at the same college. Just a few years later............ it could have been me at Fairline /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: That isn\'t news!

Hmmm. Some of what I have posted is now available on the Fairline site, but not the detailed spec. Not checked it for a while.

I understand the delay is more to do with Fairline's ability to create new models at anywhere near the pace of others, notably Princess and Sunseeker. The 66 was announced prematurely to compete directly with the P67 and Manhattan 66, but the others got a considerable head start.

Look at how many new models Fairline have announced since SBS 2003. Just the squadron 58 or was that earlier? Maybe there are others - not sure. Princess have launched the P42, P57, P67, 21m and V70.

new model rant

um, true, but is simply the sheer number of new models an attraction? Not for me anyway. In fact, this is partly why i was wary of buying brit, cos whatever (say)sunseeker you buy it will be obsolete within a few years, like chevrolets.

I wd be fairly effed off if having bought a V65 3/4 years ago, they launch a v70! blimminek is this actually specifically intended to piss of V65 owners and devalue their boats? Failine no better - the targa 48 ran for seven years, and instead of updating it, they launched a t52 with a smaller owners cabin that the t48. But now, they have launched a targa 47 (actually 48.5 feet long) but with only 2 cabins, instea of three. is that progress?

Some but not all brit models are fairly decent things in their class, but a run of just a few years devalues the brand. They can update the tellys and nav and evertything but just chucking the model after 6/7 years is a bit daft, especially when the replacement ain't as good.

I'd like to see decent boats (like sq58 frexample) stay the distance cos they don't really start making loads of loot till everyone can makem with their eyes shut. I *think* they used to do this with large prinnys but with P67, 20m, 21m and 22m and 25m ... there seems a lot of overlap.

Re: new model rant

Nope, number of new models isn't an attarction in itself. But I don't see a problem in a manufacturer introducing new models every few years, because like cars I don't intend to keep any boat that long. 2yrs is right for cars, maybe the same for boats. That way you get the benefit of advances in layout/design and the latest technology. When I find the perfect design I'll stick with it. Have you?

Princess Range

There is no overlap with the P67, 20m, 21m, 22m and 25m necause only the P67 (3cabins+crew), 21m (4cabins+crew) and 25m (4 cabins +2crew cabins) are current models.

Re: That isn\'t news!

Sq58 #1 was launched spring 2001, about hull#12 or 15 were delivered in 01. It was at SBS 2001 and #18 was at LBS 2002

Since then I think they have launched phantom 50 and 40, targa 52, 47 and 62. Sq 74. So probly about the same run rate as princess and sunseeker

TCM may be right about the money thing. In summer 01 the Sq 58 was about £565k with the volvo 700s. By winter 03 that was £635. Now it is £695k and there is an expected 4% rise across the UK builders Jan 05. All those are base price, before extras and VAT, and only correct to within a few k, but close enuf. Now there hasn't been much inflation since summer 01 and they must have got better at building them (hull # 85 about now), so you'd think they would be making massive margin now. So they ought to keep making a boat like that several years more, you'd think?

Magnum all the Sq66 detail is on the pdf brochure download, not the website as such

Re: That isn\'t news!

Ah, OK. Not looked at the download section and had my details since Junish, so apologies if the info I posted isn't new.

All of the Princess models I mentioned were launched from Sept '03 so quite a few more than Fairline in that period. Odd thing is both companies have common ownership.
