Strange ST60 fault

Got a very strange fault. I have a full set of ST 60 instruments. Occasionally the Depth display pics up information from one if the other instruments then freezes. Today it started displaying apparent wind then a couple of hours later it was autopilot data. Powering off and on fixes it but it usually happens at a critical moment. Only seems to happen when the sun is on the instrument. Any ideas.

Sounds like a dry solder joint somewhere, or maybe an intermittent connector. Try swapping the seatalk leads about first, clean & inspect the contacts.

It happens so infrequently it will be tricky to know if its fixed. Id like to understand how they work. I was wondering if anyone knows how the units are configured. The depth, speed and multi readouts look like the same instrument. Are they configured with a hard switch or software. It looks as if the Depth sometimes thinks it's a Multi. As usual with these things it only plays up coming into a tight anchorage but only once or twice a season.
