Just bought a boat with this log. Impeller rotates, the
instrument is live, but showe no figures? Must I lift out and renew or can something be done. I guess the unit is original 1989.

um it's pointing the right way, yes? the arrow points to the front of the boat. Sorry if you know all this, and are fuming. Note that they are invariably not v accurate, and a handheld gps is much more accurate for doing EXACTLY the speed limit, and praps worth spending the few quid on instead of fixing the log.

Strictly, legally speaking, speed limits.......

....are through the water not over-the-ground so GPS isn't perfect if you want to do exactly the speed limit (or if you want to know by exactly how much you're exceeding it). That reminds me of the French rozzers...er never mind. Matt did you ever get one of those GPS speedtrap things for the car, like it?

Re: Speed limits.......

Do they really apply to over the water? How do they measure that then? I though they used crummy Gatsos. Suppose you anchor in a 6knot tide- are you nicked?

Actually we were in Dartmouth, in the dinghy, and a passenger boat from brixam closing on us we had to nearly plane, to keep ahead of him and large wash. The hm shouted at us. I went over and punched him, er no, I explained that the displ boat was going much faster that it seemed, and he said ok.

Where d'ya get the french gps things? They use a lot of movable ones. Northbound, from St Omer, on a fast downhill just before the peage if there's a hatchback on the hardshoulder with rear open, that's him. I am smiling in lots of pics, as bewildered brits pelt past and get nicked. But its only 5000 FF for 138mph (J Button) so relatively moderately-priced thrills, non? Note that it's a 35hr week, so chance of night-time rozzers. I already have the windshield-mounted thing to check if nearby shops have automatic doors or a microwave (illegal in France), you're speaking of a proper map. Don't suppose it has a track function tho.

Re: Speed limits.......

Sorry OT re Stephan's Q...

Matt I'm talking about Geodesy www.morpheous.co.uk It's a tiny GPS with a chip that stores the lat long of every gatso truvelo and other o in the UK as a waypoint. Bleeps and flashes when you approach one. Had it 3 months totally fantastic, thoroughly recommend, miles better than the things that bleep when you go past a supermarket, it's saved my bacon a few times since started warping around in the bimm M-cinq. Really you should get one. They have them contract manuf I think and sales are going faster than prodn, so hurry, waitlist. £380. The competition is www.originbluei.com but they are not production ready yet. Morpheous are in discussions with the Fr rozz about putting French cameras onto the chip but stuck in arguments (quelsurprise!) Holland and Belg are available tho.

Gotta run, actually going to France right now but via BA326 not car, er running late, will log back in at weekend.
