I have (old) Stowe instruments. Stowe 200 and Stowe 220 Log and Wind speed/direction.
I am getting computerised and using NMEA. Is there any way of getting NMEA data out of the above instruments?
John, the one word answer is NO. I had the same instruments, including the 210 sounder, but as I wanted NMEA to interconnect to my GPS, I had to change. I fitted Plastimo Navman instruments, Log, Sounder and Wind, and to say the least, I am well satisfied. The wind NMEA connects to an output on the log, and from that you can get Apparent and True wind direction and speed. The wind instrument is LCD with no analogue component, i.e. direction. All is LCD.
All instruments NMEA go to the GPS and from them I can get VMG although it shows it as Waypoint Closing Velocity; true wind speed, velocity and angle; set and drift; and a reading of depth.
They appear to be good quality, and more to the point, are cheaper than home produced products - and come from New Zealand. The company that makes them is called Talon Technology, and have a website in Kiwi. All the relevant data is on this site. www.talontechnology.com/marine/index.html
