With all this talk of storms forecast for the next few days, I thought I'd pop down to Portland Bill this morning with the camera (again!). Tomorrow promises to be even more interesting.

derricking probably.

They use it to drop small fishing boats into the sea there in calmer weather.

I haven't been to Portland Bill many times, but every time I've been there, the weather has looked just like that. Isn't it normal?

It means "Stand by to turn sharp right" if you are rounding by the inshore passage from Weymouth, which you wouldn't be doing in that weather.

Wouldn't that derrick have been installed for loading stone blocks into barges back in the days when the convicts were still cutting them?
