Just had a hairy sail from Kingscross Arran to Largs. With the 0500 forecast of F4 to F5 and going South F8 later I pushed off early to beat the F8. The weather had other plans however and no sooner had I cleared the north end of Holy Isle the wind started blowing a hooligan. After dropping the only sail I had up (Small No2 head sail) I was still surfing dead down sea in a very big sea at 5.5kts with bare poles!! Bit hairy in a 7.8 meter yacht and single-handed!! Has some one forgotten to tell the weather gods its August. I hear the Rothsay Wemys Bay ferry was unable to dock at Wemys and diverted to Gourock. Now tucked up safely in Largs Clyde CG now giving Storm force 10 for Malin........come on guys give us a break, I am back to work on Tuesday!!!

Had it with me this time but too busy hanging on...plus the rain was coming down by the bucket load. Mind you the RAF's Starlight 35 "Sirius"
(they spoil these guys now adays!) was close by at one stage and she even was dwarfed by the sea state!!

Gosh you northern chappies are awfully rough and tough! Being out and about in that sort of stuff would have most forumites hugely into dipsosable nappies and the like. Down here we are just cursing about a race to Guernsey on Friday night in a W6. Bit of luck it might drop down to a 4 but then again..........

The storm went through here last night/early morning and has left two yachts up on the beach, thankfully without damage.
Not sure what happened to one of them but with the other the pick-up rope, which was a sturdy 3 ply, had unwound itself to the point that the splice had given way.
Hopefully we will get them both back where they belong this afternoon at high water.
