This taken a few hours ago off Lagness, sound was turned right down but believe me the noice was deafening. Slack water there when taken but you can imagine what its going to be later tonight with 4 knts of tide running against it. Video doesn't really do justice, seems to have flatened it out a bit although you can see the size of the big ones further out, they were prob 30' above the level I was sat crouched between the rocks, so maybe 40' waves?

Batten down the hatches tonight methinks.............

P.S. does anyone think they would go out in this??..seem to remember a post a while ago where some people voted they were happy to go out in this weather in leisurey boat.

Lagness Storm

We had one last year into Kerry, at least you will have concrete to hit. Looking at that sea state I was wondering where Wiggo was he likes big water.

We were having our annual "practice Christmas" near Cheddar Gorge, and the two year old wakes up to a slightly odd sound. We look in, we look out: those bushes are blowing about a fair bit, but settle the pup and go back to sleep.

Next morning, the neighbour rings the bell. Turns out they are a bit upset that a 10-foot diameter trampoline (with side frames, netting, base etc) is now occupying most of their front garden and has wiped out several roof tiles, some fencing, and a couple of rose bushes on the way past.

It took three of us (two hefty, one skinny) to even lift the trampoline off the ground, so it must have been a fair gust. We put it back, and put even heavier garden tubs around the base.

Fully expecting the trampoline to repeat it's flight, and tubs to be catapulted thru the sunroof of their car next time...

Fair comment, is not about wind strength but sea conditions, still doubt whether any sensible person would put to sea in these conditions in a pleasure boat (nordhavn et al excluded), not saying some people wouldn't but then not everyone is sensible. The safehaven pilot boat is built for these conditions but your average G&T machine is not, can't imagine anyone would have sympathy for some idiot going out in that and getting to trouble.

It is all well and good imagining looking at video's etc ' I could do that ' different ball game when your actually in it, we had aerials torn off, canvas's ripped open and general mayhem here on Sunday and that was in the confines of a well sheltered marina, out in open water there would not have been many pleasure boats that would have survived for maybe more than an hour or two irrespective of the skippers abilities.

impressive ....... but when you see the pilots point of view - its either time for a bit of excitement or ..... the option is to be overcarried to ........ a long long way off without pyjamas or toothbrush, you can see his point /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I totally agree Nautical .... at the time of that thread I was arguiung that to go to sea in an f10 in any conditions is mad ....... others were argiung that it was OK depending on the sea state. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Even in the sheltered Solent, going out in an F10 is madness imho unless you have some sort of superyacht or huge workboat.

Ah, I see and very true, don't normally get uppy about 99% of threads but this is one of those that really rubs me up the wrong way, seen too many tragedy's and families left with no father, husband, brother etc from such fool hardy stupidity.
