Busy sanding, cleaning, varnishing and painting...you know the drill!! Today I was looking at my collection of varnish and paint brushes, the various scrapers that seem to grow every year and all the other odds and ends I use to keep the boat looking good. My collection has been built up with some quality peices and yet what it is all carried in is not of such quality. I use an old aluminum camera case!! I was wondering what other people use to carry their favourite varnish brush and scraper? I need to build myself a nice teak box...anyone got one?

Surely a canvas hold-all is the most ideal. Won't damage your boat as you move it around, doesn't have much weight, and are obtainable off the shelf from builder's yards...

I rekon an 'old aluminium camera case' is as good as anything!

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I use plastic tool carriers from the hardware barn. Why the fixation on teak? There are so many handsome timbers which are more plentiful. I have some lovely Scots Pine stashed away waiting for a project that's worthy of it. Some of our local Australian timbers are magnificent; Jarrah, for instance. Its deep blood-red contrasted with the pale blonde of say, Hoop Pine or Quandong makes my mouth water at the prospect of it. There's a kitchen cutting board in the workshop waiting for a small repair, and it's made of Beech. Beautiful stuff! The patterns in Oak and Ash are lovely. Oh yes, there's a world of lovely timbers out there.
Peter.

Plastic for me too!

Maybe it's not the form for a wood boat but they don't rust, corrode, or rot !!! and nobody has ever asked to see my brush box /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif errm can I say that in a public place!
