Arrived at the boat Friday night after the delights of the M3 only to find that the tender usually attached to the stern by weaver davits had departed.
After the usul run around looking everywhere in case it has been 'borrowed' by a fellow boater I have to conclude that it is not intending to return under it's own steam.
Poole area - anywhere by now I suppose.
Plastimo Pi 265 (inflatable floor /keel)
Identification -
Weaver pads/arms on starboard tubes - not unique but...
Royal blue transom matching the plastic stripes - someone else might have done this mod...
Rear Port carry handle ripped off - not a dealer mod!
Anyone coming accross this please contact Poole Marine police.

This is going to seriously screw up my entire year because getting and fitting the weaver pads to a new dingy is going to take at least 7 days for the glue to dry on top of the time to get it (insurers?) - measure up to existing hooks etc - and the boat is not exactly down the road. As the davits are the only way for me to realistically handle a dingy at all (we have tried!) I am looking screwed for the early holiday period.
Very not happy........[sad]

I know its no help, but if you need a dinghy, you can use mine. Its sitting in the caravan doing nothing, give me a call and I'll tell you where the spare key is hidden.

Pillocks!
Never have understood the mentality of people who steal.
They should bring back public stocks and birching

<hr width=100% size=1>Err, let me know if Depsol enters the forum, I'll go and hide

Was it stolen from the marina? I had a tender stolen from PHYCM years ago, mid 80's, it amazed me then that they didn't have video recording on the marina entrance; it would be inexcusable now with the low cost of equipment.

I just drilled straight throught the top bar behind the slider and put a padlock through to prevent it being opened.
The padlock went to needless to say.
Any measures are only a deterient to the opportunist - this seems planned.

it's more open access pontoons than a marina however there is a security camera and guards............
on reviewing the camera output I am advised that the camera pan "stops just short of your boat"
This is rather annoying given that there is a clear view from (the back of) my boat to the camera.

Thanks to everyone for their kind thoughts - and Piplers of Poole who have promptly given me a written quote for replacement bits by eMail at prices within pennies of the best I could find on the net (and that included getting Weaver davit bits from the US!).
This will not get me down - I will get to the CI's in August and the summer is going to be wonderfull!

Sympathies... if it's any consolation, I've had me oars nicked - one by one over the past couple of months! Mad but true! W***kers!

Anyone from any insurers on here any? Is this a growing problem? Anyone with any ideas on how to secure a tender without welding it to the hull and rendering it useless?

Sympathies again...

Interestingly the only oar that could be accessed without removing the padlock securing the tender to the boat was nicked 3 weeks ago....maybe they planned real hard!
As has been said before, ultimate security isn't possible on a boat - or many things really. A simple tool kit will get you round most locks and a cordless jigsaw or angle grinder makes dust of GRP in seconds without much noise. Chainsaw does the same to transoms for O/Bs- but with some noise!
The pisser (can I say that in here?) is that I bet it's been dumped or changed hands for 20 quid by now and will work it's way back up the food chain. Someone here will see it in the next 2 months somewhere - it has to many 'tells' that can be spotted from a distance. Meanwhile I will be out around 350 after insurance settled and the insurer is in for around 500 although ironically the Boat Yard, Marine police and insurer will probably burn a good 10 hours of admin time as well so it's a dammed expensive party.
Thanks for your thoughts

Just an idea

Being as how your tender stands you at a couple of ton, and the insurers a lot more (not to mention being adapted to your boat) how about advertising for it to be returned for, say a hundred quid? (No questions asked).

I know that it is annoying to reward these little b@stard thieves but, providing it hasn't walked too far yet, you may just get it back and avoid the inconvenience.

See if your insurers will support you on this - they have a lot to gain / lose on this also.

How convenient, sounds like an Earls Court Boat Show robbery job, aided from the inside.

Duncan,

just been through the whole '2 pack adhesive' thing... Get the boat on a Monday, along with glue and MEK. Blow it up at home, glue and fit th efittings Monday night, and by Tuesday morning they will be solid. They need longer to bond fully, but will be fine by Friday night, so with careful planning, you won't lose a weekend.

Re: Just an idea

thanks - and a good one. It's the hasle factor etc. I would gladly pay 100 no questions asked but there is the little matter of where to advertise and how to complete the transaction. Can see too many probs. I have left word in a few places around Poole; and a lot of people are on the look out for it as well!

thanks Graham - unfortunately because the existing davits are on the b/platform I need to put the new tender up against the stern and mark where to put the pads first.
Looking better to be sorted properly for August right now; assuming I can get all the bits for the comming weekend.
Just have to thumb lifts to the Banks for a couple of weeks!

Bad luck, I hate these thieves.

One of the well known boat sale websites now has a section purely to highlight stolen items/boats. It might be worthwhile putting it on there? the site is www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk. The section is, as guessed, 'STOLEN' The more we are aware that these things have been stolen the more chance we will see them for sale and report it to the police. With any luck these idiots can go to prison and leave off our expensive boating equipment!

Cheers N.
