Where the hell would they take it, watchet is miles from anywhere unless there is a slipp nearby to take out on a trailer. Would thieves risk taking a boat to sea on a long leg without knowing how much fuel, safety gear etc.

Surely someone would notice or hear that in Watchet, there is nothing else going on or to do in that place...

Well if i was going to do it i would take another boat with fuel etc....hide behind the islands then under folliwing night trailer it somewhere.Sure it didn't just break loose and sink? or an insurance job?

Is this a confirmed sighting of the boat? If so please could you drop me a private message as the owner and insurance company are still trying to ascertain the whereabouts of the vessel. Thank you

Ribdriver do you know if the boat has been found? I understand it is still missing. Please could you drop me a mail? Thank you

Boat located on beach below cliffs at Lilstock, and recovered by Watchet Harbour Marina Staff and local charter boat ScoobyDooToo. At first damage was not thought to be too severe (was quite hard for them to see due to the way she was lying) so she was refloated on the high tide last night. However it became immediately apparent that the damage was catastrophic and she all but sank within about 3 minutes.

She was towed almost submerged back to Watchet where the marina staff craned her out at 2230 - she is currently lying on the quayside and they are moving her to the boatyard this morning. She will almost certainly be a total loss - the entire keel has been ripped out and every chine is split in various places. Damage indicates she has been rolled on her side whilst on the beach.

All in all a sad state of affairs, but there is no indication she was stolen - wheelhouse is still locked and engine tilted up. There was debris all over the beach which has been recovered. I guess some parts might be salvageable.

Insurers are aware (they instructed the salvage job) and I understand they have been trying to contact the owner, but he has gone away.

Hmm that all makes more sense. Sounds like the mooring gave way and she drifted out on the tide. I did think it highly unlikely that a boat could be stolen from Watchet either by the slip or by taking out to sea. Although there are some pretty dumb criminals out there though.

Could still have been stolen. As you say there are some stupid criminals about and some not so stupid.

Boats have been stolen from Marinas before now(not from Watchet as far as I know), from the outer harbour it would be very easy to steal.
