I suppose this is boaty in the sense that the money you (hope to) make can be spent on a boat. But can anyone recommend an execution only internet broker who is efficicent and cost effective - and preferably owned by a big enough parent not to have me having sleepless nights about him going bust.

My current broker must have a 60ft Oyster parked on the Hamble, judging by his commission rates!

In case Kim is feeling sensitive, replies by pm please

Try looking at the Moneyextra website as they have an internet based dealing only service. Personally I have never used one but have had good service with Redmayne Bentley via the telephone, cheaper than using Barclays Stockbrokers, who also offer a telephone execution only service. For a one off trade it seems hardly worth registering with an online broker, but worthwhile if you trade frequently. The main point to watch is that if you trade by phone you should always fix the price, or do a limit order. (i.e. only sell at or above a fixed price, or buy at or below). Do not accept any deal where the broker can trade your shares and tell you the price later. Online you also need to ensure that you get the price of each trade fixed, but this should not be a problem.

They will tell you that they buy or sell shares in a company on your behalf. What they do in reality is make you broke.

Why not deal yourself....quite easy to get registered with Barclays & deal on the internet. Providing your credit rating is good they will let you immediately play with 7.5k!

Also their commision charges are quite cheap online.
