This term has cropped up in recent threads on the seaworthiness of offshore cruisers. Have no idea what it means.
Unfortunately it is one of those common terms that one can not google easily. Can anyone give a pointer as to where it is explained?

Thanks

Its an american rock band from the 70's and 80's who were big into concept albums... my favorite hit of their's was "Too much time on my hands" from the 1981 album Paradise theatre.

Its a reasonably complicated calculation that is based on the design characteristics of a boat. Its used as a screen to categorise boats from inshore only to ocean going. It replaces the SSS screen which in turn was derived after the Fastnet disaster

Basically the higher the STIX number, the safer the boat. I believe that category A is 32 min.

Some French manufacturers wont give you the STIX number
