If he kept his mouth shut we would be better off ..

Our dear leader has committed the Uk (Us) to giving away £500,000,000 for the next three years so thats £1,500,000,000 .. just think what we could do with that ..

So the EU states 27 of them are collectively giving away £6,500,000,000 over the next three years so thats £240,740,741 each or £80.25 million a year each ...

SO WHY DO WE GET TO GIVE

£500,000,000 a year

Perhaps its time he went ..... :D

..

Equipment to Afganistan

£1,500,000,000 over three years would buy a lot of safety equipment and updated armoured vehicals ..

or

Would also pay for a lot of 57 day training courses and certificates to say you can now drive this vehical ..

or

Could be used to buy alot of medals and pay alot of BONUSES for our FRONTLINE Whitehall Office Workers ..

surely not the place for politics .............

BUT I will volunteer to compensate the UK taxpayers by re-possessing any and all of the really nice yachts owned by any of the directors of any major financial instititution/banks that have stiffed their own country while lining their own pockets -

oh - and if any financial wizard thinks we have to pay them shed loads cos otherwise they will go and do their "miracles" elsewhere (Frankfurt, New York where-ever) I think we can just about rustle up the tube fare to Heathrow -

this is the best country in the world - you are welcome to leave -

What on earth gives you that idea? -

Whether it is the best country or not is irrelevant. It's the country whose language is my mother tongue, whose culture is mine, that my relatives fought and (some of them) died for, whose Navy I served in, whose taxes I have paid throughout my working life, and where I have my home and most of my family.

Why one earth should I (or any of us) be driven out of our country by the greed, corruption, and incompetence of a few million civil servants and their political puppets. Shouldn't we be driving them out?

I could say ditto to ALL you say, and add to their number all the greedy bankers - from a onetime banker - lower eschelons, but in those days we only lent to those with plenty of other wealth

Bankers

Remember those days well .. You had to crawl into the office lick a boot or two and still get shown the door if your face did not fit ..

Topic for lounge?

As a newbie to this forum lark I am prepared to be corrected but what has this got to do with cruising. I was under the impression that, possibly poorly informed , political ranting should be confined to the Lounge.

This is not "poorly informed political ranting": it is well-informed and thoroughly justified political comment.

OTOH, I agree with you that this thread belongs in the lounge, rather than here.

On another hand, everything in life has something to do with politics, and cruising -- which almost by definition involves fairly large capital assets, not insignificant amounts of ongoing expenditure, inter-action with several government bodies, and probably some inter-action with foreign governments -- probably involves more practical politics than most other activities.

Perhaps more to the point, have you ever tried to move a thread? I have... and I can assure you that it upsets people!

It should be in the LOUNGE ..

I Agree

But not everyone goes in the LOUNGE .. and I just wanted to make a point .. Thankyou all for reading this post .. and for the comments .. :)

Since most of this money will never actually leave this country, what is your complaint abouyt. The money will be used to fund the purchase, in this country, of materials and aid and thus provide jobs etc.

Most aid is delt with in this way, only rarelt will the money actuially be turned over to another soverign power.

You got that wrong!

We are not Germany or France.....that's what they do!! spend the dosh in their own manufacturing industries and send the goods out!....We just give the dosh to those nice deserving representatives of the third world, and they spend it where they want to! and if a preportion of the aid finds it's way into a Swiss bank a/c........??

Now I feel bad!

I Agree

As I said .. We got STITCHED UP AGAIN ..

Prime Minister Gordon Brown upped Britain's contribution by £300,000,000.00 at the last minute to £1.5 billion to encourage bigger offers, particularly from Spain and Italy.

In a sense, the move worked - delivering a final figure above the target for agreement at the summit. But Mr Brown - and the UK taxpayer - was left with an enormous bill.

France and Germany - both of whom have larger economies than the UK - will pay £300 million less each - about £1.2 billion over three years.

Asked why the British contribution was the biggest, Mr Brown said: “I think we have done the right thing . This offer is one of the ways we can get a global agreement in Copenhagen "

I got an agreement .. I got an agreement .. Boy am I clever .. Just in time for the next election .. Woooopppppeee .. I got an agreement ..

So the Uk tax payer foots the bill yet again ......

In an ideal world you'd be correct. In this 'I can't be arsed world' then probably not.
