Which goes to prove that diesel is more expensive in this country than it should be. It is ludicrous that diesel which is cheaper to produce than petrol, should be more expensive than petrol, especially as so much of the nation's goods are transported by diesel fuelled vehicles (and has nothing to do with the fact that I have 2 diesel cars) /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Says it all. Beware of one eyed caledonian sneak thieves posing as honest chancellors.
Britain has one of the lowest pre-tax costs of fuel in Europe - the highest after the current administration have had their snouts in the trough.

He has never claimed to be that!

But when he gets in as PM there won't be much of a choice if you don't want to be ruled by a Scot will there?

Remember the retort on a radio phone-in of the late John Smith MP when a woman asked " With all these proposed increased taxes you won't leave me any money to enjoy myself with Mr Smith, will you?"

To which he replied

"My dear lady why do you assume that you were put on this good earth to enjoy yourself"

The reason diesel is more expensive here is because the govt persuaded the oil companies to invest large sums in their refineries to produce the new generation of '' greener'' petrol . The car manufacturers then produced great new diesel engines that people were happy to buy giving similar performance and much better consumption. The oil companies cried foul and persuaded to govt. to up the duty on diesel to make it less attractive - What a load of 'tony'!

IMHO I don't set much store by your argument - have you noticed that the UK is one of the few countries where diesel is more expensive than petrol? But then again, we are the only country where property (houses) is soo overvalued.
It will all end in tears - mark my words.

In the mean time - going to Ostend next week. Guess who will be stocking up on red diesel & booze?

My granny used to say "Try to get wiser as you get older"
Hence work towards buying the biggest and best house possible. Then sell up for the best price before government finds more ways to tax the increased value. Go and live where weather and sailing are much better. Preferably take income and pension with you.
I"m still working on it granny!
