I have never used the water tanks on my 1977 Jaguar 22 as it is stinking - crawlies and nasties live there.

There doesn't seem to be a drainage tap at the bottom, so the only access I have is through the top water inlet. Therefore, flushing the system takes hours of sweating at a pump.

What is the best thing to clean the tank?

Re: No more debates about bleach and Milton

Please Please Please No more debates about domestic bleach versus Milton versus proprietary tank cleaners.

Please Please Please do a search and read what has been said many times before.

Whilst you're at it cut a hole in the top and fit an inspection hatch, then you can get your arm in and give it a good scrub in th corners, where its sure to be green. Just a circle 7-8" diameter should do.

If you dont want to read it why click on it? agree that a search is a good idea but do you do a search before every posting you do ?personally I couldnt be arsed .

Re the tank, if its that bad is it possible to fit a liner by cutting a hole as previously suggested then if normal cleaning ,bleach milton or whatever wont do it, you could fit a flexible tank inside the old one.

Quite right...

Let's not debate it, just do a search, and discover that ordinary household bleach is the right stuff to use to kill off the nasties in the tank quickly and cheaply. Rinse it through a few times and you won't die from drinking the water.

Inspection hole is a must. Use a round dinghy type hatch.

To pump out fast I use an electric drill pump. You can get them for about £10 from Machine Mart. Pumps fast with a mains drill & works OK from a cordless.

Alternatively a manual bilge pump mounted on a piece of ply is always a useful thing to have around.
