OGs boat hunt continues to trudge forlornly through the winter months. Thought some progress was being made recently when somebody contacted me regards a P/X deal on a Princess 35 , sounded promising. His price was right and so was the cash adjustment. However a day or so later, he contacted me with the information that somebody had told him his boat was worth considerably more.
Wished him luck in achieving his asking price in light of the other 14 odd boats on the market at the moment.:)
Off to look at a Mochi in the morning, nothing quite like making an offer with an inch of ice on your possible purchase..
Anybody else go to boatshow ?
Off to Dunkirk during week to arrange berths for proposed RCC visit during late May.

Hope the viewing goes well.
I'm sure you've probably seen them, but incase, how about the Princess 35 and Turbo 36 at Norfolk Yacht Agency. I assume part ex's would be available with these aswell.

Yup.In communication with Matt at NFA.
RCC club member and a forumite have both done p/x deals with NYA recently and been happy with the price offered for old boat, however both those deals involved the purchase of boats in the more expensive end of the market.
Another RCC member (at my end of the market) was less pleased at the price suggested for his Broom Sedan.
They have a P35 and Sedan 36 in my price bracket at moment, now waiting for NYA to contact me after returning from LIBS.
Turbo 36........ Although not off "my list" . the sheer difficulty of getting to anything oily or stuff that rotates plus very exposed aft deck (chilly N and E winds) in early and late seasons estuary trips out, puts a damper on that boat.Plus high freeboard..........
Much prefer a sheltered aft deck...much more suitable for UK weather.
However if the price is right.......
Nice P35 in Italy with pair of Cummins ? for 45000 euros

I have spoken with NYA in the past and, for obvious reasons, they are happiest with P/X when there is a large differential between trade in and purchase price. Also some of their boats are on brokerage rather than owned by the company. Helpful people though and well worth discussing what's on your mind with them.

I agree with your comments about the Turbo Fred, same reasons why we bought the Sedan instead. Though i will say, i have seen a few with the aft deck enclosed with a full canopy and this gives the best of both worlds. I also found when looking, that the earlier Turbo's with the 235hp & 255hp Volvo's had more room and better access (stairs lift from the galley) than the 306hp versions, though they are still awkward for the back end of the engine room and the obvious sternglands. With the Sedan, you have the opposite problem for engine access, fine all over except for the very front where Fairline in their wisdom place the engines right up against the engine room front bulkhead. Access panels can get round the problem, but still not ideal.
Your preferred choice of a Princess 35 was high on our wishlist back in 2012, and like you i wanted the Cummins powered version, though they rarely appear on the market. A great engine match for the boat, though i have noticed over the years that a few Cummins powered ones in the for sale ads mentioned having engine re-builds at not excessively high engine hours, so would be worth a look into before separating with your hard earned. For my mind the cummins are a great rock solid engine, and the only issue i'm aware of on the 250hp version are the sherwood water pumps. Best person to check with is Latestarter on forum.
For a Volvo powered with p/ex avaialble, i guess you have also seen the one at Burton Waters. Bit lacking in Nav kit, but a nice excuse to fit some new kit :)

The other boat which was top of my list, but unfortunately wasn't available at the time is a Oyster Powerline 390. Has all the benefits of the Sedan 36, but better engine room access, easier access to flybridge, and a pair of lovely sounding 300hp cummins. There's one currently for sale (see link below) and it seems a lot of boat for the money. In fact i'm tempted myself. Shame they don't do part ex :)

The Oyster looks interesting and its still for sale.
The boat at Burton Water we looked at, very tired throughout would be the best description, charred wood around gas hob anyone and just about every engine hose joint weeping and left to dribble its contents into bilge.
Boat has been that hard for well over two years.
Much respected forumite who repairs stuff, looked at it and ran away :).Owner is very firm about price according to the broker.
The Mochi was an interesting boat. Condition what you expect from a 30 year old,not exactly cherished by its previous carers, quite a bit of gel coat cracking around stantion bases and toerails.Fair amount of roof trim needing a dab of Evo-stick.
Curious lack of seating on fly/aft deck and very little in saloon.
Will need a complete set of covers fitted aft.
Will need a complete set of nav gear ie. radar/plotter/depth sounder .
Worst feature of all ....access to fly via a couple of external suicide ladders up outside of saloon.

God help you in rough weather.
But everything was fixable. :)

Arrgghh. No names no boat identification.......

350 miles on The M25 and M11. :)

Should have known, anything any good is long gone by the time the brokers put their listings on the interweb.
Scruffy, tired, tatty, with water ingress everywhere causing varnish to lift off practically EVERY varnished interior surface. Dirty mixed bits of grubby shagged carpet fraying all round the edges, cooker poss. could be saved but really needed going over the side and nav. gear that Nelson would have regarded as being out of date.
"All" it merely needed was complete refurbishment of interior wood, all carpet and trim , complete install of modern communication gear including radar/plotter and fishfinder plus new cooker and fridge.
Heads were not pretty either .

Thats the bits you could see, lord knows what lurked unseen elsewhere.
Suspect any service regime went AWOL long ago.
Classic case of the owners losing interest, letting the boat go into a long decline and being unable to accept that its worth now bears little relation to what they paid for it. ?

Still looking :)

P45 in Spain 62k,open to offers.....:)

Have been commenting on this in MoBo Chat.
Princess 35 in Italy (and elsewhere) . Offers on 45000 Euro.
At todays euro price £37500,lets say you get it for £35.000.
£5k to get it back
Landed £40K ....and no damp smelly knackered interior. ?

Wouldn't it be better to spend £35K on one in the UK with a manky interior then have a nice budget to to make it all brand new, rather than have a clean but 25 year old interior.

Absolutely spot on..................but complete denial in the world of sellers....

Anybody care to accompany me when I make that offer to the next owner or broker .
Anybody on the forum want to take a bet on their reaction.... a fainting fit....heart attack or merely verbal violence ...:):):)

And here she is on a trip to Cowes a couple of weekends ago

Looks an absolute cracking boat and an example of the competition that anybody selling a UK boat in in this boat bracket needs to be aware of.
Exactly the sort of thing am looking to buy.
How much to get home ? have been quoted £5-6K.

Brokers really need to bite the bullet and make UK sellers aware of current market conditions, some of the stuff we have seen would best be described as restoration projects. Interiors being the biggest offender with ancient nav gear a close second . Even if you offered little more than 50% of asking prices by the time you got it up to a presentable condition, you would have lost most of the season getting the work commissioned and carried out.
This is the second time I have looked at an "orphan boat" with this particular broker up on the broads, the first being a rather grim Fairline Brava. Did inquire as to the fate of that boat, it been taken off the market .Suspect the one we looked at last weekend will soon follow in its wake.
Any brokers care to comment.

Yes, it cost £5K to get her back from Bilbao. We looked at some pretty sad examples in the UK (often described in glowing terms by brokers) before deciding to cast the net more widely.

Not one of the brokerage boats SWMBO and I looked at in UK over past 18 months merited a second look, let alone even considering making an offer.

P35 in Italy and P35 in France we may go to look at.
