I have single line reefing on my Westerly Ocean 33 which is now 21 years old. They have got progressively stiffer over the years and now are particularly difficult to use, especially when trying to get the reefs out.

I suspect that the rollers in the boom are the problem. Is it possible to get the boom refurbished, and if anyone has experience of this, what is the likely cost?

Many Thanks

Rick

I used a dab of vasoline on a slightly corroded boom roller but I don't have long complicated reefing lines. Are the ropes themselves still supple? A good wash can help there.

I had a similar problem on a Selden single line reefing boom. The nylon rollers on the carraiges inside the boom had worn a flat stopping them moving. Allspars poped round and replaced them for a couple of hours labour and small cost of new rollers.
