Last spring I had all my through hull fittings and sea-cocks changed as many were showing signs of dezincification. I will be honest in admitting that I have not been as religious about exercising the new sea-cocks as often as I should but as the yacht is in the med, I am not on board very often. When hauled out over winter, all were lubricated

The sea-cocks installed were made by ISIS which were meant to be the "best" and DZR

On my last trip on board I found that three have stiffened so much that I cannot budge them for fear of something going snap. The rest move beautifully and easily. Why three should have stiffened is beyond me

Have others had any problems with these ball valves?

I would never consider DZR to be the best. The best seacocks I have ever used are on our current boat, American "Groco" bronze ones. They all move easily, have strong handles and removable lube plugs. Top kit. I do believe they are bloody expensive though!

I looked at some Isis ones today, still for sale in a chandlery, I was not at all impressed with their quality, the edges had chips and gauges on them, and one had a small patch of corrosion at a seam, and it hasnt left the shop yet. The metal felt rough and I got the impression that opening and closing would be inhibited fairly quickly.

+1

Expensive, but they are a quality product that will outlast many others, so much cheaper in the long run

You may find the reluctance to move is caaused by a build up of deposits on the outside rather than the ball of shaft seized. Best to open and close regularly to keep clear. Problem occurs with all balll valves, not necessarily specific to the ones you have
