Hii all my not so old inflatable has got the dreaded stickies on the seago logo and the rubber rubbing strip . Anyone know of a solvent to remove it?? Iv tried white spirit but it didn't touch it.
I had a similar thing with my QS270 and used acetone with good effect, not really the best idea for regular use but it worked and the QS is still fine.
UV damage eventually killed mine as it went sticky all over , having used actone and thinners to remove the goo for the past five years, all that was left was the threads poking through the rubber in some places, the new dinghy has a tube cover made in an effort to extend its life span , we shall see
I second that - don't try to dissolve the stickiness - you'll just expose more old rubber/PVC that is waiting to go sticky - apply plenty of talc to stabilise it.
Acetone, certainly NOT a good idea - merely accelerates the UV degradation.
Here in Greece the chandlers sell a thing translates as "Silicone Milk" - put on to an inflatable outside it stabilises the outside.
Don't know if you can get it in the UK - mind-you no sun so no UV...
Acetone will work but it will only go sticky again and repeated acetone will degrade the PVC. Once cleaned, paint rubbing strake and other fittings with PVC paint from Polymarine and make a tube cover.
