Sticky fenders

Most of us I think have been there. The white fenders with the blue ends. After some time in use the blue part becomes sticky, and leaves marks on the gelcoat which are hard work to remove. We have tried to remove the sticky parts from the fenders, but it comes back. We have just bitten the bullet and purchased a full set(8) of all white fenders, with fender socks, so we will see what happens.

Yes I know, but in our marina we are moored med style - two head/lazylines and stern ropes to the pontoon. Our neighbours are never in contact. However, when cruising it may be different and yes, fender socks soon get ladders?but we have a hull protector as well.?
