.. may break my bones, but a gale force eight excites me, better a bad day on the water than a good day in the office, etc.

Blasting across the Solent on Saturday afternoon, with gusts of 38knts displayed on the wind instrument, I started to wonder where all those fearless, trendy rugby shirt wearing, bods are when the wind blows, cause there were very few yachts out for a bank holiday Saturday. Maybe they were all out in the open water getting their adrenaline rushes?

I doubt if anyone who wears that on a shirt has ever sailed in a f8 - the average sailor is well tucked up and anyone caught out is running for home creating a "poop" deck where they are sat!

there was a RORC race to Jersey with over as 100 boats entered so thats one of the reasons the Solent was quiet!

Erm .. F8 wind alone is no great shakes, the concern is the sea state. I'd be happy in the Solent in F8, I'd be worried off Alderney.
