I've broken a lug of a piece of ABS plastic :(

what's best to stick it back on ?? it will need a bit of strength...

at present i have a choice of fibre glass resin or araldite...

Sorry, but I'm afraid that it's fffffff'ed

ABS solvent will glue/seal a pipe end into a close fitting spigot but it won't, for example, glue a broken tang back onto an ABS fork or a rowlock shaft back onto the horseshoe, either to any useful extent. When ABS was first developed, that was one of the declared draw-backs with it.

Bison Plastic, only one I have found that is structural, all most as good as the original plactic. We use it to bond in fixing bosses.

Allowed myself to be talked into buying this http://www.hafixs.co.uk/ at the boat show. Have used it a couple of times now, absolutely fantastic. It seems to be like super glues should be. Fast, easy and very strong. The bloke at the show asserted that to get it to work, use the minimum possible, apply to one surface and apply pressure to get it to set. I have and it does and seems to meet your likely requirements.

Also have a read of this thread. http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=225546

Given just the choice of only a polyester resin and an epoxy resin definitely the polyester resin but if you can build up a bit of GRP around the break so much the better. Clean and roughen all surfaces.
Old vacuum cleaner needed a fair bit after SWMBO dropped it down the stairs, but repaired effectively with it

Surprised Halcyons recommendation is effective as its for soft PVC but I guess the solvent attacks the ABS and makes a decent solvent weld.

ABS cement is based on MEK as solvent. IIRC

Maybe a modern polyurethane adhesive would be the best bet.

Thanks vic... I've positioned the small tang at present with some lock-tight. in preparation for using some resin to build it up. it's the same stuff you buy in halfords Davids fastglass resin in a yellow can .... I also bought it for mending the Hoover well Vac's :D
