steyr 236 diesel or yamaha 370 sti which is best?

decided on a diesel as a must with a budget of 20k so have found 2 fairline sprints both look very tidy but with different engines. steyr 236 and the yamaha 370sti. I understand steyr is becoming more popular over here but yamaha is a name I obviously know so any helpful comments will be appreciated.
also is 18k for a 1989 sprint a good price as have seen petrol ones for 15k.

3k is a very sensible margine to pay for a diesel boat imho. Either diesel boat is cheap or petrol one is a bit over priced.

As for which diesel engine, cant help you there im afraid.

I looked into the steyrs when considering a re-engine project.

Very impressed by the Power to weight ratio which is probably the best of any diesel out there. Only concern was as a one pice block & head, if it goes wrong its a complete engine out job and maybe replacement, (cracked head = new engine).
Although there arn't that many applications fitted over here the miltary and harbour authoritys in various places seem to use them with great success.

I agree with Tico have a word with mermaid accepting that their interest is to sell you one!..

Yanmars are proving very popular as an alternative re power unit running on a Bravo III leg.

3k Extra for a diesel is excellent but as Jez suggests might be an anomoly in the real price on the petrol
