As many of you know one of my junior crew managed to dangle a rope over the side a season or two ago.
The rope in question unerringly went for my starboard prop and stopped the engine dead,we were going through a particularly low and narrow bridge arch at time.
Before you ask,the bridge was not harmed in any way.
By virtue of being too mean to arrange a lift out and to lazy to struggle back on one engine managed to unwind the offending rope and went home feeling rather pleased with ourselves.
About a year later noticed that one of shafts seemed at bit off kilter in relation to flexible coupling, thought no more about it until boat lifted for A/F.
H,mm a bent "P" bracket.
Wedge shaped shim was made up to get shaft back into alignment and bolted back up.
There then followed a prolonged and epic search for replacement that only genuine tightwads would undertake.
Trying to track down the original producer proved hopeless,so contact was made with all the fabricators of sterngear listed on Google and letters sent with pictures of damaged item, could they replicate one of these ?
The response varied from no reply,to no chance,to possibly,to no problem but it will cost.
Prices varied from £450 to £1200 all plus Vat.
Most interested to help were Lancing Marine.
Boat came out a day or two ago and the "£$%^ bracket removed.
On the off chance pop round to Invicta Marine in Chatham Dockyard about a totally unrelated matter and mentioned my poverty stricken problem.
Anywho took it round this morning, asked to hang on for 10 mins while we look at it.
Very shortly afterwards walk out with a repaired bracket for less than the cost of the P&P all the others wanted to charge for delivery of new item.
Highly recommended..............
