This picture has been poached from Vyv Cox's informative site and I'm looking for advice on how to reach the lower nut of the housing at the top of the pic. My housing is deeper down the bilge than that shown, and access is impossible.

I need to tighten this nut/bolt but it needs to be captivated at one end while tightening the other.

All ideas gratefully received.

I had a similar problem with my stern gland mounting. I had to use multiple socket set extensions from about 2ft away to hold the nut while the bolt was turned from outside (other side of bulkhead in your case). You may have to fabricate a sort of 'L' shaped extension such that you could get a socket down the side of the stern tube and turn it to fit on the nut, if that makes any kind of sense.

One of the Joys of boating!

If it's the bottom nut I hate to tell you but you may find the only way is to remove (or pull right back ) the prop shaft for access.
