My stern gland greaser is a common type with a packed cap feeding waterproof grease down a long pipe to the gland.

I can't find the container of white grease which I have been using and therefore I've bought another can of waterproof grease (which says it's for stern glands)from the chandlers, and this is the more usual tawny coloured substance, like automotive grease.

Do you reckon this is the correct stuff and any incompatibility problems likely?

I have had red ... pink ... brown ... white ... shi*e colour grease - all labelled as Waterproof Stern Gland Grease ... all worked fine.

Last one which is pinky red ... is also labelled trailer wheel bearing grease ...

These are all likely to be mineral oil based lithium complex thickened greases stuffed with anti-corossion and possibly tacky additives so compatibility problems are highly unlikely. Nerdy or what /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bet you know this already ... but ....

Unscrew the grease holder from boat ... with handle wound all way in ... IF empty !!

Open pot of grease .. Now put open end of greaser tube into grease and now wind out handle ... it will suck grease into tube far far better than you with a lolly-pop stick or screwdriver ! Hopefully you have a pot with the plate inside that has hole in centre designed sprecifically for this purpose. Or you have like my present one - No plate - so you have to clean of tube end after filling.

Doing it this way - you don't get all that air in the grease and you get a good load of grease in ...
