The sinking of a moored boat in my marina prompted a rapid inspection my sea cocks and stern gland.
As with many Westerly boats the bronze stern gland is connected to the hull by a flexible gaiter made of rubber with internal wire reinforcement.
My question is how long do these gaiters last? Does one need to replace them regularly or wait until they're looking tatty. (replacement is a difficult job in most earlier Westerly boats).
