Stern Gland Flange

Hi all

Have been changing the flexible coupling on my stern gland on a Westerly Longbow. However, having got some good thick hose for the job, the flange on the stern tube end is pathetically short so can only fit 1 jubilee clip on. What do you do in this situation to remain safe? Ideally you need two clips here and not come across this on any other boats I've owned. Is it a case of 'make do' (which I don't like) or can you purchase longer flanges from people like T.Norris? If so any ideas (before I start taking it apart!) how a flange fits to the stern tube?

Ideas and help welcome!

One jubilee clip is perfectly adequate. The pressure it needs to contain is a few inches water gauge, compared with getting on for 1 bar on automotive radiators.
The stern tube on my Sadler 34 only has space for 1 clip. It has been fine for nearly 40 years, as presumably has your Westerly.

Yes- Fine for 40 years, I just know insurance companies can be funny about it.

T-Bar clips, I agree they are Heavy Duty and well up to the job- but again in terms of insurance they are not 'lloyds approved' so not sure how they sit with that, but the jubilee Clips with the worm screw are (if you get the kite marked ones).
