Hi folks.

Can any of you help with this one. Im looking at a new (well new to me) boat. The one I have my eye on is a Princess 25 with a Volvo 130 petrol engine and Volvo leg (sorry not very spercific about the leg).

Ive not had much luck with my Princess32 which has nearly lead to a recon leg. If I brought the 25 and had any serious problems with the engine which meant a recon going in would you have to match it with the leg or does it not really matter?

Cheers

Karl

i have a friend who has recently had his Volvo engine and leg removed from 25fter and replaced with an outboard. The old engine was a 350 V8 the new engine around 300hp mercruiser.
The modern o/b is really good. better fuel consumption quieter and best of all he can raise the whole motor leg out of the water to reduce corrosion after flushing with fresh water.

So if the boat you are looking at has been always in the water expect corrosion of the leg. and don't discount an o/b powered boat.
good luck olewill

The leg is almost certainly a volvo 270 or 280. If you elected to change the engine then it would need to be matched up with the bell housing of the leg. This is done with an adaptor plate and whoever fits the engine needs to do this. As an example I have two Ford Transit diesel engines fitted on Volvo 280 legs. There would also need to be some work done with engines mountings getting the new engine to sit right.
Depending on what engine you fit its power and RPM characteristics you might want to change the propeller to get the best match. Clearly if its an identical engine that you fit then its a like for like swap.
