Was talking about swinging at anchor and suggestion was to get a stern anchor - not for overnighting tho'.

We have a 16kg delta + 50m chain as main anchor, but question is, if you do it what size do you use for stern. Is it 16kg again, or would a lighter anchor suffice ?

Unlikely to anchor any deeper than 6m, and likely sandy bottom...

I've done it and I wouldn't do it again. With one anchor the boat swings around with no fuss or drama. With two, there's a fight against wind and tide going on, and it feels like it.

We carry one and have used it.
The practice works but remember that everyone else round you has to be "kedging" as well.
Often anchorages are full of yachties who swing differently to us which creates a problem.
Should we just swing differently?
Or use a kedge and not swing at all?
If you are on your own - great, a kedge can be used to keep the bows into any swell - and it works.

Can't comment on the type of anchor - we just have what was available (rubbish anchor in fact) but we have about 10m of chain and a long rope.
A yachtie friend of mine explained how he sets his.
He lets out the chain on his main anchor - until the boat settles back - drops his kedge - winds in his main anchor - tightens in his kedge.

Probably the best type of anchor for a kedge is a Danforth type, particularly a Fortress as they are light weight for their holding power. Their great strength is high holing power in a straight line which is exactly what you want for a kedge as by definition it is to hold you in a fixed spot so not bothered about its ability to reset after swinging. For ease of handling a mixture of, say, 5m chain and 50m rope would cover most circumstances you would want to use it in.
