"A cargo ship with 3,800 tonnes of bitumen is reported to be adrift in the Irish Sea off the Welsh coast this morning in force seven westerly gales with 11 crew on board.

Shortly after 4am this morning, the vessel, called the Stella Rigel, was 25 miles northwest of The Smalls - a rocky outcrop on the Welsh coast 25 miles north of Milford Haven.

A coastguard tug is heading for the ship and an RAF Sea King helicopter has been scrambled.

The intention is to winch non-essential crew members off the ship onto the helicopter and for the tug to attempt to get a tow-line to the ship.

The Stella Rigel reports she has no power and is adrift. The nationality of the vessel is not known.

The rescue is being co-ordinated by Milford Haven Coastguard."
