I have a teleflex type helm and cable from my wheelhouse steering wheel to the rudder. With the rudder end locked I can turn the wheel freely through 20 degrees would a new cable and helm reduce this freeplay significantly or should I consider an hydraulic system.

It may be worth trying to fasten down the cable to transfer the movement to the rudder rather than the cable.

I would not be surprised if you watch the cable and it swings about like crazy when you turn the wheel. It may be that the cable is too long.

What sort of route does the cable take?
