Hi all,

im new to the boating world and am looking for a bit of abvice, when i first started with the boat and a very un reliable 4hp seagull outboard with a tiller steer, after a few months of constantly coaxing the engine into life every couple of minutes i lost faith in it and bought a bigger engine, the engine i got was a 1986 30hp evinrude for a great price from a guy in my work, the engine runs great but it is again tiller steering and im having thoughts that this will be very difficult to steer at speed, i spoke to a friend who runs two boats and he advised me to get a "morse flex steering kit" and i have been looking at kits online but they all have different cable lengths and i was wondering if anyone could tell me or have any good links to sites that would show me how to measure my boat up so that i buy the correct kit,

thanks very much in advance, Robert

ps my boat looks like this one i found online and i was going to go with a similar setup

There is a standard diagram to tell you the exact way to measure and should be obtained from the supplier.
It's distance from helm to transom plus mid transom width plus side to helm less a little for the bends plus 10" for drag link if you can fit one.
The engine should be able to take a thru tube assembly it makes life much easier.
You will also need remote throttle and gear system if you fit remote steering!
