Hi. Does anybody know what number you dial to phone a mobile phone in st maarten from the uk. The mobile number I have is 7 digits and is 556****. The person I am trying to contact is actually at sea between st maarten and the bvi's but based in st maarten.I have searched the net but not managed to come up with anything, thats straight forward anyway. Thanks in advance.

You will need the normal International code for St Maarten in front of that number. For the UK you would dial 0044**********, so you will nee 00NNN, where NNN is the international code for St Maarten & used to be in your phone book.

If you know the "country" name you can look it up here;
http://www.countrycallingcodes.com/countrylist.php

But I don't know what "country" it is & it is not listed as Dutch E Indies, Antilles, Greater Antilles or even St Martin.

Doh, Gary found it while I was fiddling around looking for it.

give my number sequence a go.. go on, you know you want to ;)

UK international access code: 00
St Maarten country code: 559
Mobile access code seems to be: 690
then you should be able to route through to the local mobby number.

Only thing I can think of that'd scupper the thing is this French and Dutch side thing.

good luck :)

Sint Maarten +599

Note they've applied to join the North American numbering plan so after 31st May 2010 it'll be +1 721 (actually I thought they had joined already until I double checked).

Thanks for that but i'm afraid I got the dreaded "sending failed":(
Maybe he is out of signal. I know he is at the dutch side, sailing from oyster pond marina.

It doesn't matter in he's out of signal.

If you're getting sending failed your text is not getting as far as your own SMSC on your own network, which probably means it is rejecting the destination number, especially if you're sending from a pre-paid phone. (I started typing in a long explanation but decided it was probably too much detail so this is the short version).

Once your SMSC accepts the message it will make delivery attempts until the message times out, which is typically after 72 hours, so providing he comes within signal within that period he'll get the text.
