does your boat yard let you stay aboard your boat while she is ashore and blocked off ? Some do and some don't due to insurance issues.

My boatyard did - and I was in a heated shed. However last summer thay decided to stop me doing so on safety grounds and I could hardly blame them. Firstly it was a long way out; down the ladder, across the fllor to one door only. In case of fire we would have died. They were probably concerned in case we had a fire and burned other boats. in fact we only used a kettle for that reason. However they will let us live on board when the boat is out in the yard. this by the way is in Sweden.

Me to although only done it for the odd weekend, strange how the boat doesnt seem as comfortable as on the water though.

Important question When on the hard do you pee over the side or carry it in a bucket down the ladder . Have you ever fallen holding the bucket when going down the ladder

The thought makes me think that one of those boilogical thingummys with a peat starter producing harmless compost would be good for a live aboard but you have to sit down for a pee or carry the bottle away down the ladder again . I RIGGED UP A HOSE WITH A FUNNEL AT THE END AND TIED IT TO THE PULPIT AND THEN LED IT AWAY TO THE WATERS EDGE- less noise and splatter - BEAT THAT FOR INGENUITY

Check your insurance. Mine does not allow overnight stays during the period when the boat is laid up.

Mine does ...Wicormarine boat yard, Portchester, Portsmouth. BUT... the boatyards insurance and your insurance are the really important things to check.
There's full live aboard and there's living aboard for a few nights.
My insurance cover definatly differentiates between the two and allows 4 nights at a time when on land.
